Overview
Dodge is reversing course for the 2026 Durango by restoring the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 to the GT and expanding its Hemi V-8 presence, per a MotorTrend update dated November 25, 2025. The move lowers the cost of entry and keeps the long-running three-row SUV largely intact as it continues on its current platform.
Powertrain lineup
- GT V-6: 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, available with RWD or AWD.
- GT Hemi: 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 (AWD only).
- R/T: “392” 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, rated at 475 hp and 470 lb-ft, returning from its last appearance in the 2024 AlcHemi special edition.
- SRT Hellcat: Supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 at 710 hp and 645 lb-ft; remains the flagship.
Dodge claims that adding the 5.7-liter Hemi to the GT makes it “the most affordable AWD V-8 vehicle in the industry.”

Context and outlook
Despite being on sale since 2011, the third-gen Durango persists with periodic styling and powertrain tweaks. MotorTrend reports it will continue “in its current form for a couple more years.” The lineup’s breadth—V-6, two naturally aspirated Hemis, and the supercharged Hellcat—keeps a V-8 in the Dodge brand at a time when other models lean toward four-cylinder and electrified powertrains. While it still drives well and serves family-hauler duties, MotorTrend notes its safety and convenience tech trails newer rivals.
Bottom line
Price, power, and choice define the 2026 Durango: the V-6 lowers entry cost, the GT’s 5.7-liter Hemi creates a more attainable V-8, the R/T’s 6.4-liter returns enthusiast-grade output, and the Hellcat remains the performance pinnacle—augmented by new appearance and personalization packages.
